The EUR-OCEANS Integrating Activities consist of WPs 1-3. These 3 WPs and their sub-WPs will be conducted at the network level. The activities in these WPs will create a strong and lasting integration of the activities of EUR-OCEANS Member Organisations.
WP1.1 Networking: Sharing Facilities
General objectives: To improve the joint usage of the rich and diverse suite of relevant research facilities of EUR-OCEANS Member Organisations in Europe. Benefits of sharing facilities will include better use of capacities, better access to expensive or novel technologies, and improving the scientific co-operation within Europe.
WP1.2 Networking: Mobility and communication
General objective To promote networking, mobility and communication to foster integration within the EUR-OCEANS Network.
WP2.1 Data integration: Observing systems
General objective To integrate the existing European open-ocean observational capacity in order to produce a more reliable network and hence to foster model development and validation.
WP2.2 Data integration: Networked database
General objective Collate, analyse, and distribute the large data sets needed for the development of EUR-OCEANS models
WP3.1 Model integration: Model interfacing
General objective: To accelerate progress of EUR-OCEANS-relevant models by encouraging and promoting the interfacing between models developed for biology (GLOBEC type), for biogeochemistry (IMBER type) and for physics (CLIVAR and GODAE).
WP3.2 Model integration: Global ocean
General objective: foster the development of global biogeochemistry models based on the concept of Plankton Functional Types (PFTs).
WP3.3 Model integration: Large-scale Earth System modelling
General objective: Provide the infrastructure to compare results from different coupled climate - carbon cycle AOGCMs in terms of their projections of future changes in marine productivity and shifts among basic types of marine ecosystems.
