"Alkalinity (T ALK) budget module" from PISCES v1 Equations

equation

Equation Description :

The carbonate chemistry in PISCES follows the OCMIP protocols (see the OCMIP website for more information at www.ipsl.jussieu.fr/OCMIP) except that it has been simplified to reduce the computing cost: alkalinity only includes carbonate, borate and water (H+, OH-).

Parameter values and definitions:
delta* CaCO3 = in situ CaCO3 remineralization rate (see link below to equation);
delta* DOC = in situ DOC remineralization rate (see link below to equation);
D = concentration of diatoms in micro mol C l-l;
g = 4, 0.7 d -1 (max grazing rate for micro-(Z) and mesozooplankton (M));
I = functional groups zooplankton can graze on, P, D, POC;
K P = 0.1 micro mol C l-1 (half-saturation k for mortality);
mu = production by phytoplankton groups;
M = concentration of mesozooplankton in micro mol C l-1;
m P = 0.01 (nanophytoplankton mortality rate);
P = concentration of nanophytoplankton in micro mol C l-1;
R CaCO3 = 0.4 (max rain ratio);
sigma = 0.3 (fecal pellets production);
w p = 0.01 d-1 mol C-1 (quadratic mortality of phytoplankton);
Z = concentration of microzooplankton in micro mol C l-1;
