"Fe content of phytoplankton" from PISCES v1 Equations
Equation Description :
For the iron content of phytoplankton, a similar approach has been adopted as iron is mostly related to the photosynthetic apparatus. Thus, the equations predicting the iron content of both phytoplankton groups are exactly equivalent to chlorophyll (see below for link to equation ). This parameterization produces variations of the Fe/C ratios which are consistent with the observations: these ratios decrease with light and with the nutrient stress including iron (Sunda and Huntsman, 1997).
Parameters definitions and typical values in PISCES:
alpha = 4 (W m-2)-1 d-1 (Initial slope of the P-I curve);
delta = 0.05 (exudation of DOC);
g M = 0.7 d-1 (max mesozooplankton grazing rate);
g Z = 4 d-1 (max microzooplankton grazing rate);
K = 0.1 micro mol C l-1 (half-saturation k for mortality);
m = 0.01 d-1 (phytoplankton mortality rate);
M = mesozooplankton concentration micro mol C l-1;
mu D = diatom production (see link below);
theta Fe max = 10 , 15 micro mol Fe mol C-1 (max Fe/C ratios for nanophyto- and diatoms);
w p = phytoplankton aggregation term (link to equation below);
Z = microzooplankton concentration micro mol C l-1;
