"nitrogen-fixers budget module (PFT)" from PlankTOM5 Equations

equation

Equation Description :

N2-fixers growth in PlankTOM follows the expression of phytoplankton in PISCES (see right for link). Growth is defined by primary production, less the excetion to DOC, and the loss terms mortality due to nutrient limitation, aggregation sinking and grazing.

Definition of terms and values for N2-fixers:
alpha = slope of the PI curve
DOCexcretion = 0.05 (fraction of prim.prod. excreted as DOC)
Km,Fe = 1000 pM (half saturation constant for Fe)
Km,PO4 = 80 nM (half saturation constant for PO4)
Km,Si = - pM (half saturation constant for Si)
Km,mortality = 0.1 microM (half saturation constant for mortality)
M = mesozooplankton concentration in mg C m-3
mortality max = 0.05 d-1 (max mortality rate)
mortality min = 0.01 d-1 (min mortality rate)
mu max = 0.04 d-1 (max specific growth rate at 0 deg C)
P = phytoplankton concentration in mg C m-3
PAR = photosynthetically available radiation
pFmeso = 0.5 (preference of mesozooplankton)
pFmicro = 0 (preference of microzooplankton)
respiration rate = 1000 d-1
Tdepend = 1.066^T
Z = microzooplankton concentration in mg C m-3
