"nanophytoplankton budget module" from PISCES v1 Equations
Same equation in other models :
Equation Description :
Nanophytoplankton budget in PISCES is controlled by a production term, minus losses to mortality and grazing by the two zooplankton groups (micro- and mesozooplankton, Z and M). The production terms for nano/picophytoplankton is defined by mu P as shown above.
Parameters definitions and typical values in PISCES:
alpha = 4 (W m-2)-1 d-1 (initial slope of the P-I curve);
a = 0.66 growth rate at 0 degrees C;
b = 1.066 temperature sensitivity of growth;
c = 1 temperature sensitivity of growth;
delta P = 0.05; nanophytoplankton exudation of DOC;
g M = 0.7 d-1 (max mesozooplankton grazing rate);
g Z = 4 d-1 (max microzooplankton grazing rate);
K P = 0.1 micro mol C l-1 (Half-saturation k for mortality);
L P lim = nutrient limiting terms (link to equation below);
M = mesozooplankton concentration micro mol C l-1;
m P = 0.01 d-1 (phytoplankton mortality rate);
P = nanophytoplankton concentration micro mol C l-1;
PAR = photosynthetically available radiation;
T = ambient temperature deg C;
w p P = 0.01 d-1 mol C-1 (quadratic mortality for phytoplankton);
Z = microzooplankton concentration micro mol C l-1;
