How to use the Shopping Tool?

Follow the diagram on the right

‘Modelling Tools and Status’ - What is under this tab?

The graphic presents the contents of the Model Interfacing Database in real time. The information is supplied by the model developers and the data is presented to reflect the expertise within the NoE, as well as descriptions of the variety of tools in use.

For each model shown, exists a description, application region and dimension, development status of its parts and contact of the responsible developer.

Sorting is provided for all fields.

‘Modelling Tools and Status’ - Why do models appear several times?

The tool is presenting the database on a ‘who’s developing what’ approach and demonstrates developers expertise as supplied by the developers.

‘Model Descriptions’ - What is under this tab?

Descriptive data on each model is provided as registered by the model developer, together with project links, pdf files and model schematics. If model schematics is provided by the developer, these can be hyperlinked to descriptions of the model equations of the major biological process on which the model focuses (e.g. see PISCES).

‘Model Descriptions’ – How to reach them?

Click on the NAME of the model you want described from the list under ‘Modelling Tools and Status

‘Equations’ - What is under this tab?

In addition to the standard model description and model schematic, a list of model equations can be viewed under the 'Equations' tab (only PISCES and ERSEM-PELAGOS available). The equations are alphabetically listed per model for simplicity, but can be viewed and found in the context of the model schematic (click on the ‘Schematic’ tab). Each equation is described as in the original paper and linked to the corresponding equation (if available) in other models to allow direct comparison.

The list of keywords per equation is also shown for transparency based on which the equations can be searched.

‘SEARCH’ - What can I search for?

The tool is currently incorporating a prototype search function for ecosystem model equations (use full names rather than 3 letter acronyms) and a test search function for model applicability. The latter aims to provide a list of ecosystem models already applied to specific regional ecosystems or ecosystem processes (eg fisheries). The search is ONLY operational for ECOPATH models focusing on higher trophic levels and fisheries. Link to OSMOSE models is planned plus any other existing database (including EurOCEANS models across all trophic levels).

Where does the DATA in the database come from?

Model descriptions and references are provided by the developers themselves, both within and outside the NoE. The database is visualised in real time and can be modified and updated by the develmopers at any time. The graphics below show a summary of the data contributed by the developers.

My Profile is MISSING? Why?

To ensure accuracy and representation of individual expertise and approach, the data is provided by the developers themselves. THE TOOL IS ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR INPUT so if you are a developer please give us your expertise profile (enter your model here).
